What a week....

These two pics are of my first sock knit using MySmallWonders superwash sock yarn. It is really yummy when on your feet. I would definitely get it again. The striping is very even.

Well this has been quite a week. As I mentioned before a couple months ago, we moved to Lancaster, OH from Athens, OH; an hour's drive just about. My husbands family lives in Athens-area and my family hails from Cleveland, Ohio. We now live closer to my parents (45 minutes closer, it's still a 3.5 hour drive).

So this week, we drove to Athens a total of 3 times. On Monday, we went to get my husband and son fitted for their tuxedos--brother-in-law is getting married in a couple weeks. I had a doctors appointment to deal with my super high blood pressure--genetic. The blood pressure medicine made me lose 15 lbs of water weight! Spent 2 hours at sister in laws, so she could play with my son. Tuesday morning, woke up at 8 for a car repair appointment at 10 in Athens. Went shopping and had lunch while the car was being fixed. Wednesday, went to mother in laws house so husband could mow her lawn. She loves being a grandma.

I have been working out pretty much every day for the last 2 weeks, and am finally getting results. I try to go at 530 am so I have the whole rest of the day ahead of me.
I have been knitting away on my socks this week....seems like the hundredth pair but I love it so much! Right now have SSS with my Socks that Rock second sock. Cant seem to cast on for it...will try again today

Vickie Howell and the return of CRL

As you may have already noticed, I have a banner on the blog touting the return of Vickie Howell's podcast "CRL." Last season was fantastic--so many interviews with cool crafters! This season begins May 22nd, and you can find the schedule here.
Vickie also has a newly-released book, Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go . Filled with knitting tips and tricks, this book is perfect for the on-the move knitter or just to have as a reference in your knitting library.
Southwest Trading Company has partnered with Vickie in producing a line of eco-friendly yarns. Craft, Rock, Love, and Vegas. I have Craft, Rock, and Love in my stash and have used all three. My personal favorite is Love, because it is soft and silky. I have it in Mulder and Scully Jade.
Be sure to check out the podcast; it is a really great show!

Yarn Shoutout of the week

I'm a little late with the promised yarn shout-out but here it is. A yarn that I am currently using for socks is MySmallWonders superwash sock yarn, purchased from Etsy. The yarn has a nice hand, and the dyeing is, in my opinion, excellent. I have tested the yarn in water, and have not had any bleeding problems.

This yarn is thin, ala Lorna's Laces. I'm using size 1 dpns for my socks, and am loving the way it knits up. The yarn is a decent 383 yards, in the colorway Burgundy Bliss. I wish that there had been more yardage in the skein. Another plus--there were zero knots in the skein.

I really like to support indie dyers, and Etsy is the perfect place to find a lot of them. I'll include pics of the finished socks once they are done. The finished project will be on my Ravelry page too--I'm Sturgillsusan on there.

This is going to be so hard!

Hi everyone!
Just looking at the comments...wow. It's going to be too hard to choose just one winner, so I will be choosing another winner early next week. You dont need to leave more than 1 comment, but I will be picking 2 winners. The second prize is a skein of Auracania Ranco sock yarn in the colorway Blueberry Multi, which is really beautiful. So come on and leave me a comment!

My first LYS

The LYS near me is downsizing and moving to a new place. The Spinning Turtle was the first yarn shop I had ever been to when I rediscovered knitting in college and it became my drug. Set in the historic square of Nelsonville, Ohio, this LYS became a frequent destination for me. The owner has the philosophy of stocking the yarns that enable knitting to be affordable for many people. Brown Sheep, Plymouth, and Cascade are among the yarn lines carried by The Spinning Turtle.

Local yarn shops are important for so many reasons that its impossible to list them all here. The number one reason that LYS's are important to me is that you get an education there and helpful advice that you cannot get anywhere else. No one understands knitting more than another knitter.
My all-time favorite dpns are Plymouth bamboo in size 1 (US). I can't find them anywhere else except The Spinning Turtle. Though the store is reopening in a smaller space, I will still miss the coziness of the shop and all the information I gathered during my visits there.
