Baby Sweater Progress and a Giveaway!

The snow is falling (rapidly) here in NE Ohio.  It feels like January, but it's only November.  It's the perfect time to snuggle up in a warm blanket and knit something!

I've made significant progress on my Hug Me pullover.  I've completed the front and back sections, and am currently on sleeve #1.  I decided to go with the teal/sage green/chocolate color combination because I love how those colors look together.  It's been a pretty simple knit so far, and I'm hoping to get the sleeves done this week and attach them/finish the sweater this weekend.

I'm having a giveaway this week as well.  Up for grabs:  a skein of Cascade Heritage sock yarn in a pretty(and spring-like) lilac color, and a copy of The Joy of Sox by Linda Kopp.  I will draw a winner on Monday, November 24th, so enter by midnight on Sunday, November 23rd.

I have another copy of TJOS, and I've knit the Blue Crush socks out of it so far (well, one of the pair anyway) but there are so many great patterns in the book, you will have trouble deciding which one to knit first!

How to enter:

  • Leave a comment on this post (please include your Rav nickname so I can contact you if you are the winner)        or
  • Leave a comment on the Ravelry post about this giveaway in the 'Contests & Giveaways" forum.

You can get one extra entry if you:

  • Follow my blog  or
  • Follow me on Twitter (I am KnittingMama on Twitter).

Good luck and thanks for reading!

FO: Socks!

I *finally* finished a long-languishing pair of socks using ONline Supersocke Cotton 100--a cotton/wool blend sock yarn.
I started these in June 2009, and finished them today, October 25th, 2014.
I did not like the yarn a lot at first--not a fan of the self-patterning that was going on in the skein, but these turned out to be very comfortable and perfect for cozy fall evenings.

Lots going on lately!

There has been a lot going on lately in life--family visits, traveling, celebrations, and knitting.  My son celebrated his First Communion this past weekend and it was wonderful.  The sun started shining during the ceremony, and we had a nice family gathering at home post-church.  I wanted to make the day really special for my son, so I decided to make a centerpiece for the table that also did double-duty as dessert.

My mom and I chose to use macarons and meringues for the display.  I arranged them in a cross pattern that turned out really well!

We bought macarons from Vanille Patisserie in Chicago, which has a wonderful assortment of pastries.  We chose the teal blue (vanille flavor) and the cream (hazelnut flavor)--colors went with our color scheme.  The macarons held up great-refrigerated for a day or so prior to serving.  You can't really see the cream-colored macarons--they are underneath the meringue cookies we piled up on top.  The centerpiece was very fitting and looked great!

I finished my Cadence socks a couple weeks ago-- I used Cascade Heritage in an aqua blue color--they look and fit great.

Currently OTN:  a pair of Monkey socks in String Theory Colorworks Continuum self-striping MCN.  Colorway is Particle Accelerator.  I love the yarn and the striping is fantastic.  Pics to come tomorrow when I have more of it done :-)

FO: D-Man Socks

I recently finished a pair of D-Man socks using Knitpicks Felici in "Gelato."  I love how soft these socks are and the colors remind me of spring, which has finally seemed to arrive in NE Ohio, after a seemingly endless winter.

This pattern was very simple to follow and perfect for in-front-of-tv knitting, esp. during Downton Abbey:-)

Stitchin' during Sochi:-)

Happy February!!

It's been a while since my last post...life gets really busy with work and an active 7 year-old and a seemingly endless winter.  The sun has been shining for the last couple of days and it's been getting slightly warmer...keeping my fingers crossed that the high temperature will reach 50 next weekend like The Weather Channel says it will!

We've been watching the Winter Olympics this past week...it's the first one that my son can really appreciate--his favorite sports to watch have been snowboarding, slopestyle, skiing in all forms, and luge/skeleton.  During the Olympics, I've been knitting here and there...some baby hats, washcloths, and a baby blanket for various groups.  I've been knitting exclusively from the stash, trying to whittle it down just a bit :-)

I came across a new source for clearance yarn:  Lion Brand Clearance Page.  It's located on the Lion Brand Yarn main site--overstock and discontinued yarns are all listed there.  Some pretty good deals to be had :-)

Cleaning and trying to ward off a cold today--tonight I will try to work on my Ravellenic socks/Sockdown socks--Mona--Cookie A Pattern from KnitSockLove.   Sock progress pic below--using Dream in Color Starry from the Dream Club-Spanish Star is the name of the color--super glittery and lovely colors!

FO: Colorful Noro Socks!

First completed pair of socks in 2014!   We are in a deep, deep freeze here in Northern Ohio, so these
socks will be keeping my feet warm and toasty tonight.  These socks were started in December 2011, languished for a couple years, and were finished today(January 26th, 2014).  Finished in part due to a KAL in the 12 Socks in 2014 group on Ravelry, but also because my feet are always cold and store-bought socks don't warm them up as much as hand-knit socks do:-)

Noro Sock Yarn

So...I finally cast on for sock #2 using a ball of Noro Taiyo sock yarn that I bought a year or two ago.......and even after cutting the yarn in just the right place to hopefully/sort of make the two socks look semi-fraternal, if not identical, this is what I get :

I cut so much from the skein that I do not have a ton of extra yarn to 'play with'.    And despite this picture, the second color in the sock on-the-needles is a periwinkle blue, not a pink like in the other sock.  And the third color on the OTN sock is a teal/aqua greenish color, which also does not appear on the first finished sock.    I guess I should have peeked inside the skein before I bought it.

These will still be super-comfy, but I'm not sure if I will  be buying this one again.
