FO: Newborn Sweater

Last weekend was very snowy here in Northern Ohio, so my son and I had a weekend snowday and camped out at home.  Played some board games, watched some Christmas movies, and I got a little knitting time in as well.

I finished my first sweater this past weekend.  The pattern (Buttercup Baby Set, from Creative Knitting magazine) was fairly simple.  I love the texture that the yarnovers and k2tog made, however I got out of sequence with some of the yarnovers.  I used Vanna's Choice in the color Dusty Blue.  I used about a skein and a half.  Very happy with how it turned out :-)

This sweater is headed for the Pine Ridge Reservation, along with some baby hats, booties, and (pretty soon) a blanket.

It's definitely close to winter here in C-Town.  The temperature has been up and down (more often down) lately and I'm not a fan of the cold, especially when my boiler decides to extinguish the pilot light and it's night and getting chilly.  I seriously think I've caught a cold from my own home...

Sock progress:  this past weekend, I cast on for sock #2 of my Cadence Socks--didn't make it in time for SolidSocks October KAL, but will be done in time to qualify for SKA October Sockdown.  I am, once again, really enjoying this pattern.

Torn as to what project I should do next.  I've already begun sock #2 of my Dragonfly Socks (leftovers from a couple years ago, finishing them for a Mystery Tour KAL ).  I also am halfway down the leg of Pointelle, using Lorna's Laces Solemate in Navy Pier.  Enjoying Pointelle, but not a huge fan of patterns so complex that if I look away from the page, I'm immediately lost in the charts.

More pics to come!

Sock KAL progress and a GIVEAWAY!!

Happy fall!  Fall is probably my most favorite season...there's just something about apples, pumpkins, cider, cozy nights spent knitting...that really makes me happy.

I've been making significant (for me) progress on my Cadence socks that I'm knitting for Solidsocks KAL, SKA October Sockdown, and VeryBusyMonkey KAL on Ravelry.  First time using Cascade Heritage sock yarn, and I can honestly say I will be using this yarn again in the future.  I like the feel of the yarn as well as the stitch definition--it highlights the lace in the pattern very well.  Progress pic:

I'm also having a yarn giveaway!  To be entered to win, all you need to do is one of the following:  1)  Leave a comment here or 2)  Leave a comment on the Ravelry thread I created for this giveaway.   What's the prize?  A skein of Pagewood Farm Glacier Bay sock yarn, in the "Mocha" colorway.  I thought it was a pretty perfect colorway for fall:-)  Good luck!  PS--I will be picking the winner via Random Number Generator on Sunday, October 27th, so you have plenty of time to enter.

New shawl pattern alert and sock progress

Just got an email from Lorna's Laces announcing their new pattern collection, the Davenport Collection, designed by Laura Chau.  I immediately fell in love with Terauley, a gorgeous shawl that can be knit using a skein of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock.  Pattern purchased, and I can't wait to cast on.  I'm thinking of using either my Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the Whidby Island color or my SpaceCadet Creations Celeste yarn.  Both of those have pretty good yardage, but I'm leaning towards the LL.

Making lots of progress on my Cadence socks for SolidSocks and SKA KALs.  *Almost* to the heel flap of sock #1, and I am really enjoying knitting with Cascade Heritage.  First time knitting with it, and I will definitely use it again.  Progress pic from just now:

It *finally* feels like fall

The leaves are slowly changing, the nights are earlier, and there is a snappy chill in the air, which gets me in the mood for hot, mulled apple cider and settling down to knit a little in the evening.  I love fall.

Planning on participating in 2 KALs in October--SolidSocks Group on Ravelry October KAL/Sock Knitters Anonymous October Sockdown.

The SolidSocks color of the month is 'blue' and one of the featured designers for the SKA KAL is Verybusymonkey, so I will be double-dipping for at least one pair.  I'm going to be making Cadence  using Cascade Heritage sock yarn in the 'Anise' colorway.  I'm looking forward to finally using my Cascade yarn--I've bought quite a bit of it and have not gotten around to using it yet.  Sock #2 for SKA(because I have 2 months to knit both pairs) will most likely be Tea and Scandal, yarn choice TBD.

Can't wait to get started on these next week!

FO: Campfire Socks

First FO since the middle of summer...absolutely LOVE these and am so glad I'm finally finished with them, so I can wear them to chase the autumn chill.
I love the yarn-Tuscan Grove "Bellagio" in the Mint Ganache colorway.  It's a silky-smooth DK weight, and I had forgotten how quick of a knit these socks were.
Motivation to (finally) finish this pair:   I took a weekend trip to South Bass Island (in the middle of Lake Erie) with my son and wanted a quick knit to take with me, one that did not require a lot of concentration.  I scored some knitting time at night, after my son fell asleep, and while he was playing on the playground in the center of the park in town.  I also knit on the ferry ride back to the mainland.  I think I started the second sock on Saturday night and finished it this past Wednesday night, and am so happy with the finished product!

FO: Ladybug Shawlette aka Camp Loopy 2013 Project #1

I finished my Ladybug Shawlette (Camp Loopy 2013 Project #1) last night with about 45 minutes to spare.  Yarn used:  Desert Vista Dyeworks Voir in the Witches Revenge color.  Up until now, I don't think I have ever sat and knitted continuously for more than 2 hours at a time.  Last night was definitely a knitting marathon for me.

Tonight, when I get home and mommy/housekeeping work is done, I shall continue with the Lintilla shawl I'm making for Camp Loopy Project #2.  Yarn I'm using:  Lorna's Laces Solemate in Christmas at Downton color.  Obsessed with Downton Abbey.

FO: Adonis Wrap

I finished this about a month ago, but am just getting around to putting it up now.  Mostly for the fact that since I got an iphone, I have been using my old digital camera less and less.  It took a while to learn how to upload blog pics via the iphone, but I managed to figure it out.

This wrap is the Adonis Wrap, from Kate Jackson Knits Spring/Summer 2013 pattern collection.  It was my first large shawl done in a worsted weight, as well as the first project I have ever successfully completed with wraps and turns throughout.   I used Plymouth Encore in a pretty silver color, Plymouth Galway in grey for the ruffle, and Dream in Color Baby in Twilight as the contrasting color throughout the wrap.  I love it, and it was a really fun knit.

Giveaway winner and shawl progress

OnlyKnitting175 is the winner of the 2 drop spindles.  Stay tuned for more giveaways in the coming weeks:-)

Shawl progress:  Slowly progressing on my Loopy Ladybug shawl for Camp Loopy, using Desert Vista Dyeworks Voir in the colorway "Witches Revenge."  Loving both the pattern and the yarn, just getting nervous that it will not be complete by June 30th, which is when I need to have it done for Camp Loopy.

I'm giving away a set of two Amish-crafted bottom-whorl drop spindles.  To be entered to win, just leave me a comment either on the blog or on Ravelry.  I will draw the winner on Sunday night.

These drop spindles are great for both those learning how to spin, as well as more advanced spinners.

Good luck!!

New yarn and a giveaway soon!

It's been a while since my last post...busy with life and work.  I'm hoping to get a lot more knitting done over the summer, since I've re-organized a lot of things around the house, yarn stash included.  I got a couple new skeins of sock yarn last week...MadTosh Tosh Sock in Edison Bulb (super super bright yellow) and Manos del Uruguay Alegria (a new sock yarn).  I love them both, but the Alegria's colors are so vivid, you have to see it in person to get the full effect.  I'm posting a pic of the Alegria that I have.   I'm going to be having another be announced tomorrow.  Stay tuned!!

I'm currently knitting the Kite Scarf , pattern by Kate Jackson.  I'm using Pagewood Farms Yukon in a pretty turquoise color.  I'm enjoying the pattern so far--still working on the first point--and hoping I don't run out of yarn! Pics to come later today....once I figure out how to upload via my iphone:-)
